Changing currency at Phuket Airport

Hi all just a query regarding changing currency at the airport. We will be arriving around 5.30pm on a Saturday afternoon. Will the currency exchange desk still be open at that time of day and where exactly is it located within the airport? Are the rates competitive in comparison to what you would get in Patong or would it be better to wait and maybe get a small amount of baht in Australia to tide us over for the Saturday and exchange more the next day in Patong.

Cheers Mandy

Absolutely don't use the airport money exchanges. Get yourself enough baht for your taxi and to get you through until you've had a time to look at the prices being offered in Patong.

When you exit the terminal on your left hand side you'll find a TMB Bank, open 24/7, where you can change. However, TMB offers the worst exchange rates of all banks (at least I don't know of any others with a worse rate). They do accept notes that other banks don't accept though, that is the only reason I am sometimes forced to use TMB.
