Safe to travel to Phuket in Feb 2014 - Political Unrest

I am planning to travel to Phuket from 7th Feb 2014 for a week - Is it safe to travel at that time considering the political unrest in Thailand and elections scheduled to happen on Feb 2nd?

I know the protest is confined to Bangkok for now - but am worried that it may extend to other parts of Thailand including Phuket after elections?

Also - I have to change flights at Bangkok Airport ...

Please advice!

I am traveling into Bangkok on the 13th of Feb, then down to Phuket on the 17th.

I am not changing my plans....what will be will be. I keep an eye on the Thailand news web sites.

I intend to keep away from the main protest sites in Bangkok. As for Phuket, I havent heard about anything going on down there.

You won't find any problems here in phuket everyone is to busy making a living.

I am resident here for 6 months. Don't worry even Bangkok is well contained now.

Unless things change for the worse, just go on your holiday, & don't worry so much about what may never happen :)

Hi

I and my husband are traveling to phuket on 29th Jan13 to 8th Feb,14. On the election day 2nd Feb , as per our original schedule we are travelling from phuket to phiphi island. Will the ferry service be on ? Are we supposed to be cautious about anything in particular?

Thanks

Saranya

So far, Phuket has been pretty quiet regarding the demonstrations in Bangkok.

They say government offices to be closed, but immigration, police, banks and even the labor office was open from what I hear.

There is a place or two in Phuket town's north end where some demonstrators were peacefully sitting I believe.

The tourist areas show no signs of the shutdown in Phuket.

Of course, this could all change at any time.

Who knows?

Worst case scenario would be civil war.

But, even if that happens, Phuket will most likely be spared of the worst of it.

I wouldn't change my plans as far as the situation is right now.

Hi

I am traveling to Phuket on 28 Feb. What are the conditions there? Is it the same as media reports or it's just over hyped by news channels? Please tell me the current situation ...
