Reunification Express

Can anyone tell me what time the Reunification Express leaves Hue for Danang and how long the trip takes.

Also is it suitable for a couple who will probably be dragging suitcases etc?

If we don't use the train what are our other options to get to Danang from Hue?

This is one journey that is best done by bus.

There are two journeys by each bus line each day - they leave Hue around 08.00H and 12.00H noon.

The safest Opentour operators are An Phu and Sinh.

The drive time is about 2.5-3 hours to Hoi An.

Wondering what your reasons are for saying this is a journey best done by bus and not train? Have other people taking the train?

Other travellers on this forum have suggested taking a private vehicle because you can stop at places of interest along the way? What is your view on this?

Would you also be able to give a cost on all 3 modes of transport. Many thanks Marian

3ofusMelbourne:

There are only three types of public transport between Hue and Hoi An. (1) Local bus; (2) OpenTour bus; (3) Rail.

(1) Is a hard way to go;

(2) OpenTour has 10 runs from Hue to Hoi An daily, 5 leaving at 08.00H and another 5 at 12.00H. Cost is VND30,000. (About USD$2)

(3) Rail travel between Hue and Hoi An occasionally MUST BE DONE BY LOCAL (milk train) TRAIN when all the hard and soft seats on express trains are filled.

(4) Private vehicle costs about USD$50 but has certain advantages as you point out.

The biggest thing you miss (and it is big) is travelling over the Hai Van Pass BUT there are tours to the pass that will allow you to visit at leisure.
