Guide in Vietnam( food and drink)

We are all booked for our Vietnam holiday , in a nutshell Saigon, Hoi an with 2 nights at 'LE DOMAINE DE TAM HAI RESORT', Hanoi with a junk trip on Pinta Gold.

We love food and drink, looking forward to the local beer.Although we like to do our own thing , we think that it would be a shame to walk past street stalls and not know what we are missing ( for example in Thailand we were scared/ignorant of what to order).

Do you think it would be possible to hire a guide of sorts, not exactly a guide but more of a local drinking/eating buddie who would explain about the various food and drinks at street stalls.

Not sure if we would need a guide for more than one night? Happy to drink the local Bai hoi but need to know about food to go with it , the etiquate , and also what local spirits to drink.

Any ideas?

Why don't you ask a hotel staff (at hotel you are going to staying) accompany with you if they are kind & helpful enough?!

Just go with Hanoikids for whom you pay nothing but provide you with interesting facts about the town. Don't know if they would go along with your drinking/eating favorites, but for sure you'll get insightful explainations on everything you see.

Hope this helps.
