Property

Have just arrived in Da Lat and we are looking for apartment/villa to rent then perhaps purchase.

Doesn't look very promising, internet waste of time and nothing advertised as far as we can see ?

Any ideas please ?

Robert, Unless you have any business connections or are married to a Vietnamese then you don't qualify for buying any property in Vietnam. I fear Tim wasn't just jesting. Property in Vietnam isn't what I would call cheap unless you like houses that flood. Those go real cheap. Coupled with the legalities of property buying, some serious research is required before you part with any money. Condo are probably the best you can hope for.... and they are wickedly over priced for foreigners.

In my experience condos cost the same whether you are a foreigner or not. At least as far as brand new units go that are being sold off by the original builder/investor. But you still need Vietnamese language skills. And a company or Vietnamese spouse or Vietnamese born spouse. Your spouse doesn't have to be a local.

If you want to invest in property in Asia, look at Malaysia or Thailand where prices are based on market conditions and independent valuations & surveys rather than however much the seller thinks they can wring out of the buyer.
