The prices on the better junks are all around the same price and we've seen on here that you do get what you pay for with the junk companies but do a search here and get quotes for other junks. The good thing about the Indochina junk company is that it goes to a much quieter and cleaner part of the bay than the others.
Just to add, they are the only junk company that serves dinner in a cave on the 2nd night so if you think it's something that you would enjoy it might be worth the high cost.
You get what you pay for. we travelled with indochina junk and paid that amount. It was a brillant trip of a lifetime. Friends went on a cheap trip, and regretted it.
We were quoted US $260 PP for the same trip including transfers in a bus, if we wanted a car it was an extra $60 in total. That price seems competitive comparedf with those quoted by travel agencies in Vietnam.
Sure you can get cheaper; but the experience will also be not as good. In Halong Bay, you get what you pay for. There are plenty of posts in here relating the bad experiences of those who went budget.
Book the best you can, you won't be disappointed. Oh, and Indochina Junk are excellent.
Am keen on using Indochina Junk but noticed in their conditions that passengers should not exceed 100 kgs or be more than 2 meters tall. My husband is 6ft 5in and weighs more than 100kg, would this be an issue and do other junks have this safety condition?
Send an email to indochina junk asking them. I found them really great answering my questions and requests.
Indochina Junk is good, they go in the less touristy area. This is mid-range boat so there are more expensive boats. I think the price is for Dragon's Pearl which is also the cheapest boat of this company.
Marzey: Rooms on Indochina Junk are quite small so it may not be great for your husband. Try Treasure Junk for a similar itinerary but the boat and its rooms are bigger. The suites on Treasure Junk is very large with a very big bed :)
Visit wonders offers the deluxe cabin at 220USD/person plus 30USD transfer 2 way Hanoi - Halong, total 250 USD/pp. You got fair price then.
