Hiring a cyclo in Hanoi, how much?

Hi all,

We're very interested in hiring a cyclo once we arrive in Hanoi. How much should we pay per day?

$4 -$5 / 1 hour only. No need for whole day. Hanoi old quarter is small. If you go out of old quarter to HCM's complex or others, you should go by taxi.

Do not forget " Pho" and " Bia hoi hanoi".

Sitting in a cyclo becomes a bit boring after a while. One hour is plenty.

If two of you get in make sure of the price before you start. We were told $5 but at the end he wanted $10, $5 for each of us.

We paid 50000 dong for an hour/cyclo (Thats about $US3)

we go the hotel receptionist to negotiate it for us and tell them where we wanted to go. Both times we took a cycle trip the driver stopped just before the hotel when we got back and tried to up the price. A bit of friendly banter followed and we stuck with the agreed price. it pays to have the correct change.
