Hey Macca

We use Vietnam Airlines and have never had a problem with them. I'm not sure if they fly direct from Melbourne but they do from Sydney. Air Asia generally have cheap flights but usually incur a stopover for a couple of hours at KL. There is a new airline called Scoot I think which flies from Oz to Singapore cheaply and then you can get a puddle hop across to Hanoi, Danang or HCMC.

Hope that helps

Mark

We are returning March/April 2013, we fly into SiemReap and out of DaNang. Our best deal with least airport time was with Singapore ,into SiemReap and out of DANANG . It cost just over $1000 each which I thought was a great price with a fantastic airline. Happy travels

macca if you book vn airlines online make sure you get the actual airlines website. A Google list will show various lookalikes but the real site is the one that quote "Portal". Late Feb / March should cost you around $1100 from Melbourne direct to HCMC.

If you want to save money this is what you can do with Scoot.

First the fares are from Sydney.

Scoot to Singapore return will cost $500. Overnight in the transit lounge hotel will cost around $80, then first flight the next day on Tiger to HCMC return will be $100. Total $680. This is carry on baggage only, which for a trip to VN is easy as any extra clothes you may want are so cheap. If you have checked luggage then you cant stay in the transit hotel in Singapore so the overnight at say V Hotel will cost around $100.

Interesting way to go if you can get good flights from Melbourne to Sydney.

Scoot is the budget wing of Singapore Airlines. Flies to Thailand, China and Singapore so far but will soon be extending perhaps even to Europe.

We booked Vn Airlines on website. Direct flight from Melbourne to Hanoi. This meant we landed in Saigon then was taken through customs and put on connecting flight to Hanoi. Our trip back left from Saigon (this was our last destination on our trip) and was a dirct overnight flight back to Tullamarine. Had no problems with this airline and all our domestic flights with this airlin went to plan as well.
