Monasteries, getting there~!!

In order to find the optomized way to get to geghard monastery, Haghartsin, Goshavank, and eventually Lake Parz, I have been reading lonely planet, browsing travel forums all through...

Many nice sides in Armenia seem to be drastically scattered and tourism in this country doesnt seem to be well developed in terms of tour companies and transprotations.

If any friends in this forum have ever discovered these sites, I appreciate if you could share any advise.

Or, booking a tour seems to be the best option for all these? (I also chcked different daily tours and even these kind of travel agency is quite scarce~~~

Thanks in advance

In the outskirts of Yerevan there is generally some public transport. For Geghard, however, you then have to walk the last 6 kms. But you can already take the bus to Garni, then a taxi from there , if you don't like hiking.

In the countryside, you need a lot of time if you want to visit by public transport and hiking (athough the hiking is nice). You can hire taxis locally.

Public transport to the monasteries is quite a pain. Best to go with a tour agency or a private taxi.

I took a tour with HYUR and also a private tour with the hostel and another with a private guide. Public transport ain't easy and especially so if you can't speak the local language.
