2 nites Battambang/4 nites kampot or 3 nites At each?

Hi all, am still planning the best routes before booking hotels, which would you choose? As now thinking two nights at Battambang may not be enough. As will only have one and a half days there, and want to see most things, such as bamboo train, bat caves, villages and the circus if still running.

When you do the Bamboo Train make sure your tuk tuk driver gives you one of his 'comfy' seats to sit on.

If you go into the foyer at the Seng Hout Hotel you'll be able to have a look through a catalogue of local trips that their drivers do, together with photos.

I'm with thmoore on this - split your time between the two. BB is an absolutely charming town, a great place to slow down, see a few sites, and just enjoy. Seng Hout is a terrific hotel - well located in the center of town.. The food there leaves a lot to be desired, and there is much better to be found within a short walk. Are you planning on going straight from there to Kampot? If so, be prepared for a very long day of travel. Would be helpful if you can break it up with a few days in PP.

Thanks all, so far my plans are to start in Siem reap, and have five nights there, as arriving late will only be four full days. Then three in Battambang, two phnom penn, five in sihanoukville, and lastly three in kampot, will then take taxi from kampot to phnom penn airport for evening flight. I could change sihanoukville to four nights and still have four in kampot?, or will three nights be enough there. As for Battambang hotel looking at staying at Battambang resort, a little out of town but gets good reviews.

I'm just planning our 3rd trip and am doing almost the same trip as you. Battambang is an interesting place, we are staying at the phka villas again, can recommend highly enough, just over the river. Only 10 minutes walk into town as well. Eat in the white rose one night, food was fantastic. In Kampot try a saraman curry at the rikitikitavi, it's wonderful, enjoy!

Thanks nanette, was also looking at the phka villa,s as good reviews, will try a saraman curry as staying at rikitikitavi for our stay in kampot, really unsure of place in sihanoukville as lots of not so good reviews. Thought maybe don basco school, a little out of town though. When are you planning your 3 rd trip?

I'd allow at least 3 night in PP, 4 if you won't be arriving there until late in Day 1. One of those places you'll love or hate, but if you like it then there's plenty to keep you interested. If you like a drink at the end of the day then the FCC (Foreign Correspondents Club) is the place to be. Happy Hour 1700-1900, be there early and grab a balcony seat on the top floor overlooking all the mayhem on the Quay below. There's loads of quality places to eat.

Although we never stayed at the Seng Hout hotel in BB, we ate there 4 times and thought the food was excellent, so must have had a different chef than Lynn011 (#4). A very much plus point about the Seng Hout, apart from it being excellent vfm, is it's location right in the middle of town.

We stayed at the Rikkitikitavi in Kampot a couple of years ago, and it's a very pleasant place.

We are planning our trip for February 2014. First time we did an organised indochina package tour, liked Cambodia so much we went back independently earlier ths year. We wont be going to Siem Reap this time, but will be staying in Sihanoukville for the first time. We couldn't decide where to stay, then read lots of good revews for the Clearwater guest house, so we are having a few nights there. We are also staying at the Rikitikitavi, it's a reall nice place, right on the river.

If you do the bamboo train ride in Battambang, be prepared for a VERY bumpy ride!

Another vote for three nights in Battambang and have only ever stayed at the Seng Hout and used Mr Kimthe best Tuk Tuk driver! Sorry, could'nt resist!

In Kampot we have only ever stayed at the Rikitikitavi, right on the river, best Beef Saraman l have ever had!

Three nights in-each is a great taste. We'll be basking in the Happy Hour at the Riki within two weeks, can you hear the glow in my typing! Also Happy Hour at the FCC is also a terrific way to end the day, great views along the river. Pop in earlier in the day to reserve a balcony seat.
