Change money or USD in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap?

How widely accepted are USD in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap? Do I need to change money? It seems I read somewhere US dollars are widely accepted. Thanks.

You've read correctly etrael_10 - greenbacks all the way - even out of ATMs

You'll get riel as change (for under $1 - converted at 4000/$) just make sure you have plenty of small notes and they are nice and crisp and new

So widely accepted it is all that is dispensed at most ATM's (I did find one in Phnom Penh that gave a choice of riel or US). On our last trip we received very little riel - I went to a bank to get about $10 converted.

ANZ Royal and ABA Bank who I bank with , their ATM's give you the option of Riel or USD, you don't want too much Riel.
