Friday, 19th July 2013 - Expect Chaos at Phnom Penh Airport

For those arriving at Phnom Penh International Airport on the Thai Airways flight, or any other flights, at circa 09:00 am on Friday, 19th July, please expect total chaos at the airport.

Because Sam Rainsy, the recently Royal Pardoned leader of the former Sam Rainsy Party (SRP)and now the leader of the Cambodian National Reconstruction Party (CNRP), the major opposition party to the CPP/Hun Sen lead part, is arriving at that time now that he is no longer subject to arrest and an eleven year gaol sentence for his "political" crimes!

Best regards. Ian

It is anticipated that a welcome home crowd of up to 40,000 people will gather at the Phnom Penh International Airport to welcome home Sam Rainsy, leader of the Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) when his Thai Airways International (TG) flight lands at 09:05 am on Friday.

Traffic to/from the airport should be chaotic for several hours.

Best regards. Ian

Yes I think the country is on hold until election over. Had a mixed opinion from locals when I was there.

You must be joking!

If the CNRP are there in huge numbers then the CPP will be there in just as large numbers to rain on the CNRP parade. It'll be chaos! The CPP is the master of dirty tricks. They've already summonsed the acting leader of CNRP, Kem Sokha, to attend court that morning! Kem Sokha has told them he won't be there! This could be a very interesting morning in the history of Phnom Penh. Glad I am not an airport user tomorrow morning!

Oh! And crowd control is not a Cambodian Police strong point.

Just think of those several hundred people crushed to death at Koh Pic a couple of Water Festivals ago.
