Clampdown in Vang Vieng

I spoke to a Vang Vieng bar owner on a visit to Vientiane the other day. She mentioned that there has been a police clampdown on the bars and hours over the last 6 weeks. Many of the slides have gone and the bars have been strictly told that the music must cease by 6.00pm every evening.

Apparently these regulations have been enforced, however it remains to be seen for how long. It might have something to do with the fact that at least 6 tubers have died this season.

Does that refer only to the bars on the tubing route? Please be more specific if you are posting hearsay.

I think a bar owner carries more gravitas than a "couple of travellers".

However, up to you. Those of us who dislike the riff raff in VV are pleased.

Thanks for your contribution Rufuscat. The information you were given by the bar owner is first hand experience . They have seen it first hand. and not heard from another source. If the owner heard it from another source it would in fact be hearsay. Whilst I don't want to get involved too much I think some people should understand what "hearsay evidence" is. Having a criminal law background I am well aware of what constitutes "hearsay". You have reported correctly and keep up your valuable contributions.

If this continues I may be tempted to add Vang Vieng to our itinerary for the next trip to Laos. Fingers crossed.

Thx JohnC. I don't know why some posters get their knickers in a knot.

Yes, I will make more requent visits to VV now as well, rather than just once a year.
