Luang Prabang and Vientiane in December

Hi,

Would anyone advise getting hotels with pools to cool off after sight-seeing? Or is the weather not really warm enough to warrant it?

Thanks!

You won't really need a pool in December. The mornings can be quite chilly. You would be able to use on in the afternoon.

we were there a few weeks ago and stayed at Sabadaii and they did not have a pool and the weather was really hot. There are not a lot of hotels that have pools and many of them a quite expensive.

However in saying that one afternoon we felt like a swim after sightseeing for all the morning and into the early afternoon. We walked up to the Setha Residence and for $20 you can use their pool and facilities. We spent a lovely few hours lounging by the pool and enjoying a cocktail or two. The pool is really large and there was hardly anyone around.

So if you really need a swim you can always do a casual visit without having to pay the hefty price of their room rates.

There are a number of hotel in Vientiane that have pools that are not expensive. Villa Manoly is a delightful restored colonial mansion that has a small pool, both the Vansana hotels have pools, Best Western has a pool and of course the old Lane Xamg has a pool. These places are not expensive. There are of course other more expensive places with pools as well. Having said thi, you won't really need one in december, though you could still go for a dip in the afternoons as it warms up.
