New road to Muang Ngoi

We were thinking of spending a couple of days in Muang Ngoi during our trip to Laos at the end of January. I just read that a new road has opened to this previously boat access only village. Does anyone know if that is true and if so, has it changed the character of Muang Ngoi? We were hoping to experience a couple days in a quiet, sleepy place.

Muang Ngoi is still sleepy, the road and the electricity did change it a bit, but there are no buses going to Muang Ngoi yet. If I were you, I would visit Muang Ngoi and walk to the surrounding villages like Ban Na and Huaybo, it was such a stunning place, walking thru the rice fields with the mountains around

Thanks so much! We are leaving in a couple of weeks and decided to spend a couple nights in Muang Ngoi. Great to hear it's a good choice.

Were there in December. It was quiet and absurdly beautiful. Saw maybe a dozen other tourists. Take the boat, the ride is wonderful. And if you can take a boat further upriver, the village Ban Sop Jam is a good destination. The ride there is incredible. And the village has a nice set up selling scarves to tourists. Go.

Great to get your feedback. We are bicycling for a couple days between Oudomxay and Muang Khua and then will take a boat down from there to Muang Ngoi. We have a homestay at the weaving village you mentioned as well as 2 nights in Muang Ngoi. Good to hear we made a nice choice.
