Rainy season itinerary help

We are a couple from Norway (24 and 31), and we have some problems figuring out our traveling route through southeast-asia.. We're going to be backpacking for 4,5 months or so (feb-june), starting in Singapore and ending in Bangkok. Our original plan was to do it the other way, but after all the political demonstrations (and the election coming up in february) we decided to reverse it.

The countries we want to visit are: Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Laos and maybe the Philippines if we have the time and money. (Does that seem doable in 4,5 months?)

So our questions are: How do we do this in the best way considering the weather? Apparently the rainy season hits the countries at different times, and we need som help to make our travel route without too much backwards and forwards.. What would it be like to end our trip in Laos/Thailand in may/june? How badly does it rain at that time?

We are grateful for any replies! :)

Spent 3 weeks in Laos last June. Weather was humid, temperature 30 to low 30's. It rained a couple of times a day, very heavy downpours, but only lasted 20-30 mins. We didn't feel hampered by the weather at all. We sat and watched the rain fall, then got on with whatever it was we were during.

We spent a couple of days in the mountains north of Luang Prabang on motorbikes with a Lao friend, we were careful not to get stuck on the narrow rutted out track that served as a road in and near his home village. This was the only time we watched the weather carefully, but it turned out to be no issue at all.

Perhaps a local can better advise re weather. My experience was as a first time visitor to Laos.

We were in Laos for 6 weeks last rainy season. We had torrential rain and the river in Vang Vieng was way up over it's banks, almost to our door! There were a lot of landslides on the roads too. That being said, we LOVED it. The weather didn't bother us at all and wading through the flood waters was fun. If you are on a short trip it may stop you doing things, but we had plenty of time to spare so it was fine. We still went tubing and kayaking, with kids, it was fine. Be very aware of Dengue fever, particularly in the wet season, there was a terrible outbreak while we were there. Laos is one of our favourite countries, the people are just gorgeous. We blog and we travel full time. I'm not sure if I'll allowed to link to our Laos posts! Good luck! Alyson World Travel Family
