17 days in Malaysia - suggestions on itn

Arriving KUL January 24, leaving Langkawi on February 10. Interested in golf, food, beaches - slow pace.

Tentative plan:

Jan 24-26 KUL

Jan 27-28 Melaka

Jan 29-30 Ipoh

Jan 31-4 Penang/Georgetown

Feb 5-10 Langkwai

Sound like a reasonable ITN? Suggestions on hotel ($70-100 range) and transportation options would be appreciated. Already have hotels in KUL and Langkwai arranged and thought I'd take the ferry from Penang to Langkwai.

Itinerary and what to see and do are very much a personal thing. So if you are happy with yours then its a good one for you. Some may like it some might not, but if you think its right then great.

For me its too much moving about, even at a slow pace you will waste a day travelling between locations. Many think they will see sights along the way, but travel any freeway around the world and you know it is not packed with sights!

Personally I would forget Malacca and Ipoh and fly to Penang as you will see there similar to Malacca and Ipoh. The ferry is an ok way to get from Penang to Langkawi, but it is 3 hours and can be rough as the ferry is not the most comfortable in the world - don't plan to use the toilets.

Hotels like what to see and do are very much a personal thing. Assuming your budget is US$ and not AU$, CAN$ or one of the many other $s, then it is a limited one, so the best thing to do is look at the green banner at the top of each towns forum page and check out the Hotels tab [ tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotels-g293951-Malaysia-Ho… ] where you see the full range of hotels / apartment rental / B&Bs etc for that area, see what appeals to your actually budget / style / requirements and you can also look at nearby hotels on a map, as well as read recent reviews

Can't see the green banner?? Everyone forgets or misses the Green Banner and the Top or Frequently Asked Questions/FAQs [especially if using smart phones], which are packed with lots of really great information about lots of really useful information!! If you are accessing TA via the smart phone app’ you won’t see the Green Banner or FAQs in the normal app view on your phone, so suggest that you view the app it as full site mode / desk top view; or just use a laptop or pc to enjoy the information that has been collected.

Hi there

Just to let you know that 31st Jan is Chinese New Year in Malaysia which will also mean peak travelling period 2 - 3 days before and 3 - 4 days after. If you are planning to travel out of KL during that period, my advise is to finalize your travel plans and book your accommodations soonest.
