Puzzled about Outrigger Konoto, can someone help?

I'll be returning to Maldives for New Years and I'm trying to pick a resort. I took a chance on Hurawalhi in March of this year and I was very pleased with the resort. Im now looking at Outrigger and by all accounts (reviews, photos) it looks like a really nice 5 star resort with spacious over water villas however Im hesitant in booking because the price point is low ($720 per night for new years) when all other mid range 5 star resorts are well over $1,200 per night.

What am I missing here? is this a faux 5 star resort that is really photogenic?

We have been to Konotta twice recently if you want to check out my TA reviews and my photo albums. We are also returning next Easter.

Happy to try to answer any questions.

Hi

I think it's just a case of good value for money. This island also has some good offers on at the moment. One of our DEs (lyn) is very fond of this island and I'm sure will be along to advise.

Darryl

Lol she already has while I was typing

I guess after Hurawalhi you will really enjoy Konotta, the villa's are a lot bigger. And yes the prices have been very low for Konotta for quite some time.

However it does surprise me over new years. The real bargain deals or offers that i have come across lately have been fully booked within days so i do wonder too why it's not more expensive OR, why it's not fully booked yet...

Thanks a lot for the responses and advice. Based on what ive read so far coupled with the responses from Darryl, Lyn, and Ab369 I think I'm going to go ahead and book Konoto. Ill be going for 11 nights so im thinking of doing Konoto for the first 5 nights and then Im trying to decide between Six Senses or Shangri la for the remaining 6 nights. Thanks again!!!

Konotta requires a domestic flight transfer from Male plus a 30 minute (approx) trip by motor yacht to reach the island from the domestic airport. I think you would need to consider how complicated (time consuming) it would be to move between Konotta and the other resorts you suggest as these are not close by. A closer resort, which could be reached by speed boat, may be a better option to consider if you want to split your stay.

Great point, would you happen to know if the domestic flight is something I need to book myself or is it included in the resort transfer fee?

Also, Shangri la seems closeby on the map. I will need to find out if it's reachable by speedboat. Thanks

Regarding the required transfers, it depends how you are looking to book Konotta.

We always book through an agent who specialises in the Maldives and they include the accommodation, meal plan and transfers in the quote. They arrange the transfers in conjunction with the resort.

Shangri La is in the next atoll south of the atoll where Konotta is located and I would suspect that this will be too far to go by boat, which you would need to privately charter (hence also expensive). I would guess you would have to go back to the domestic airport (Kaadedhdhoo) and then fly south to Gan. From there, you could get the resort boat transfer. Seaplane transfers are starting up from Gan, & these would reach the atoll where Konotta is located, but I do not know when these will be fully established.

My understanding is that Konotta is trying to attract longer stay western guests hence all the current offers for certain markets. At the moment, for some reason, many are put off with the domestic transfers yet the Asian market (who stay for shorter trips) do not mind at all. We went to the same atoll this year and didnt mind the transfer at all and found it no more troublesome that waiting for a seaplane and it was in fact more of an "adventure" to be going so far from Male. We are booked to go to Konotta next year and cant wait!

I ended up booking through the Outrigger website. For anyone that is booking on their own you should use promo code FUNTIMES for a 30% discount and an upgrade to half board. Looking forward to Konoto :) thanks for everyone's help.

dgirma, thx for the update, am sure you gonna have an amazing time at Konotta.

Can anyone clarify where you got the info that Konotta is trying to attract longer stays and certain markets?

Because all i can see is very low prices for any amount of nights and on secret escapes anyone can book it with a minimum of 4 nights, so no matter what country you're from.

The one thing i like about Konotta is they seem to try and get the resort as full as possible and lower the already crazy prices. I hope other resorts will follow as well. Or they are doing really badly and desperate to get bookings...
