please help us in selection, we know what we want

Hi I am new to this forum and would like some help in selecting an island for our next maldivian holiday. We have already been twice to reethi beach and throughly enjoyed it but would like to see something else. Our requirements are quite simple.-

- price range up to €5,000 for two people for a week

- good reef reachable from beach not by boat

- not interested in diving sites, diving centre etc., we snorkel

- beach quality is key, we do not want a bungalow with no beach in front. So we look for an island with good beach allround or for a combination island+type of bungalow which avoid this risk (for instance I understand that deluxe villas in Filitheyo are all in nice beach area)

- quiet and relaxing definitely no club type

On these basis - leaving reethi beach aside - we have selected:

- as first choices: angaga, filitheyo

- as backup:vilamendhoo, makunudu, eriyadu, komandoo (although those walls look awful), .

Does anybody feel like giving some inputs or suggestions?

many many thanks

You don't indicate whether the 5000 Euros is to include air from your home and what time of year as that makes a huge difference.

We have been to Filitheyo a few times and don't agree with the beaches being excellent. A couple tiimes we were there it was mainly gravel with some sand and heavy coral type sand near the family bungalow units. Angaga has some nice beaches as well as moderate cost but not overly fancy water bungalows. The problem with Angaga is it's all buffet food and little choice for a la carte. Still in all we love Angaga for the fine beaches and very laid back atmosphere.

During off season you might be able to get by for 5000 Euros at Soneva fushi is you watch the booze and they have everything else you are looking for --- in spades.

Thank you all. I will try angaga then.

Filitheyo is a strange place though. Someone describes it as the best possible choice (for a reasonable budget), for someone else, the beach is only half decent.

For some people food there is better than in almost any other resort, someone else claims to have been foodpoisoned...

To a certain extent this is normal, not everybody has the same benchmarks, but in case of Filitheyo is quite difficult to form a view.
