We are hoping to confirm Mirihi for next June-Sept period. This would be our fourth trip.
In the meanwhile, this being 10 months away, I'm looking at some kind of makeshift alternative for December. I'm hoping a Maldives faithful here has actually gone to either Siladen or Sipadan and can tell me what the snorkelling is like, compared to the Maldives. Note: we will NOT be diving.
I think the weather is not peak for either place, but hear that it is fairly temperate at this time. I can find very little on Siladen, but hints that the snorkelling is great. And for Sipadan, I see that the diving is world-class but I find very litte about the smorkelling- where would I stay , for Sipadan - Mabul? There doesn't seem to be a beacht here.
Anyway, I'm asking here on the odd chance someone who hangs out here actually has been to these other places and can give a first-hand opinion. If not, it's the usual "the snorkelling here is in crystal clear waters and fantastic!" and the reliability of that is 50-50.
My specific questions are:
Like the Maldives: if you've been to either S,
- off-beach snorkelling - is there any? In Asia, this is not very common. I don't wanna go on a snorkelling tour.
- beach accomodation - is there any?
- the white-sand thing - nice and powdery, or nice and photoshopped?
