Random questions that Google can't answer :)

Hello everyone!

I was lucky enough to win a $5000 expedia voucher, and after months of debates on where to go - my fiance Brett & I have chosen the Maldives- Medhufushi Island Resort.

We received an excellent deal 2 x return flights, 10 nights in over water villa and half board (breakfast & dinner + softdrinks, juices & water) for $5100.

I have some random questions - are you allowed to take in snack foods (packaged, unopened bags of chips, for example or packets of biscuits?)

I know the Medhufushi offer a sunset fishing charter, but does anyone know if they offer day time private/group charters?

Are you allowed to bring in sealed bottles of water?

We are paying for our own wedding very soon so are keen to keep excess costs down.

Can't wait to visit and thank you for the anticipated responses :)

Hi,

Snack foods like biscuits and chips (crisps!) are fine. Prohibited items are:

Religious materials offensive to Islam

Idols (for worship)

Pornographic material

Narcotics and psychotropic substances

Live pigs

Import Restricted Items (except to Government authorities)

Arms and ammunition

Alcohol and Spirits

Pork and its by-products

Dogs

Dangerous animals

So yes, you are also allowed to bring in water but if your package provides the water anyway would you need to? Also best to avoid the smokey bacon crisps ;-)

Full List of things is here http://www.customs.gov.mv/en/?p=1111

Can't help with the fishing trip, sorry.

Rob

Or any of their by-products!

Shame some of my local drinking establishments don't have similar rules for admission!

Most folks go through a couple of litres a day of water due to the heat. I think to bring enough in to save you any form of money you would soon loose out on excess luggage charges by far. Water is not light. Is the package just drinks at meals, is that the concen ( although it's unusual for half board to Inc any drinks, but the packages in the Maldives always like to be different. Lol

Snacks are fine to bring in, but I'd avoid the pork scratchings:))

Have a wonderful time.you'll love it!

Ps I think the best money saving idea is to bring your own snorkelling kit to save hiring it, plus it has other benefits, like fitting properly and being more hygienic.

Well done on winning the competition! My wife won £2500 in Thomas Cook vouchers a few years ago and that's how we started going to the Maldives. It cost us thousands in the long run though.

Hi Ian

Wow - dehydrated water - great idea.

What do you need to add to it?

Hi Richard

The most economical option, is just empty the dehydrated water into a bowl and leave it out when it rains....and hey presto!

Love that, particularly the testimonials where the guy states he can't believe someone created the website do they not have something better to do with their life. Lol.

Ps this would go very nicely with Pauls filter straw:))
