Knitting on long haul flights from Gatwick

Just to give heads up to any knitters hoping to while away the hours on a long haul flight.... I've just been advised by the customer service desk at Gatwick that ALL knitting needles, be they metal, bamboo or plastic, full size or circular must be in the hold luggage otherwise they are confiscated.....

Shame but understandable

You could try this before you go? I love it! Not for me though. At school I actually got 0% for my attempt at knitting a baby's cardigan! What a cheek, not even 1% for effort!

They sell a lot of the hold items once you're through into Departures - razors, scissors etc. Don't know about knitting needles...

Are you sure? They may have made a mistake? I dont knit, but i do know that Normally knitting needles are permitted, and they are not on the Gatwick listing of prohibited items either, even TSA permits them. Where are you flying to?

Lol! I am a bit disappointed tho as I'm sure I'd read that the needles I use were allowed - but that was a few years ago....

Certainly wont be doing any once we arrive, just thought if might make the 10.5 hrs go a little quicker! Hey ho

I understood that this had been a fact for many years. Along with embroidery etc.

There is always finger knitting or lace work.......now the last I would be interested to see. Maybe I'll try that.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ukywxy19Gk8 and you can finger crochet too.

Were flying to Male with BA and you're right, i couldn't see them included on the list of prohibited / restricted items either!

I was almost sure that the circular ones I use were allowed but thought I'd just check as they are a very expensive pair of needles. But according to the email I received this afternoon, they WILL be confiscated!

It's not a problem, just thought others might need to know :)
