Snorkelling with kids and turtles?

Hi,

We are a family of 4 (kids aged 11 & 13) trying to decide between the caribbean and Maldives.

Its for a special occasion (my wifes 40th) so flexible on budget (say $25K for 10 or 14 days).

All of us are keen on snorkeling and 2 of us on diving (but beginners so want to take a padi course).

Either looking for 10 days in one resort or perhaps a week on a charter boat then a week at a resort.

Does anyone have a suggestion where to stay (late march / early April 2013) that has good snorkeling from the beach. No pressure but the kids want to swim with turtles!

Thanks in advance

Alan

Although its called a honeymoon pool villa, that accommodation on kuramathi is enormous with your own courtyard and private swimming pool. They should fit in 2 more beds as there are living rooms etc

Maafushivaru also have adjoining pool villas; 2 beach villas sharing your own pool

Are there 'plenty of turtles' on Reethi for snorkellers or are they only seen regularly on dives?

I think turtles on Reethi are somewhat of a rarity (thought I recalled Bonters saying he hadn't seen one despite his many visits). They are to be found though - saw 2 on our first visit (our only sighting over 2 weeks) and one on our second visit (our only sighting over 10 days). I haven't seen them whilst diving the house reef - I think most divers have more interaction with rays which is almost an everyday occurence.
