Walkie Talkies (PMR 446) allowed?

PMR446 walkie talkies are the standard, license free walkies widely used in Europe for hobby usage, like on motorbikes, or in the woods. They usually have a range of about 3 kilometers or so.

Anyone know if they are allowed in the Maldives?

I have seen a Japanese couple use communicator wrist watches whilst snorkelling. Do not know the legality though.

Hi

Just talk a little louder and you'll be fine. God knows why you would need them in the Maldives no motor bikes no woods and precious little distance

Regards

I hope they are not. It's bad enough when you get people on the beach talking on mobiles. The last thing the peaceloving need is to hear the crackle of "Breaker Breaker. Did you want them to put an umbrella in your cocktail or not Dear ? Over"

AFAIK the PMR446 band is only legal to operate in Europe (except Montenegro) and Scandinavia, with it's FRS counterpart (different freq.) being legal in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

I'm trying to assemble a list of what's legal to use in different regions, so feel free to comment at http://www.roaddogs.se/?page_id=291 if you have any additional info.
