Maldives next March for Snorkelling & Diving

Next March we are planning to go to the Maldives from Manchester UK

Are budget is under £6k and snorkelling from the beach or jetty (been to marsa Alam) and very good diving (he's been on Maldives livaboard) are the most important things.

Not bothered about spa or meals on the beach or golf and would prefer NO butler service.

We will be very active so AI suits us.

Meeru looked good but boat to reef - I get sea sick - Husband is the diver and he is fine on a boat.

Kuredu & Bandos are the best so far.

Any comments or other ideas would be a great help.

Also if you do a seaplane the luggage allowance is only 20kg but 30kg on main flight - how does that work? Divers on holiday take everything.

Kuredu has a reef but its not easy to access and is in deeper water (but lots of marine life by all accounts). Bandos would be a more family friendly resort (known for child friendly especially), a tadge too close to male for my liking. You can do better than both if snorkelling (from the beach) /diving is up your list of priorities.

Well recommended AI islands with a bit going on and various degree of snorkelling would be;

Vilamendhoo (very good reef)

Kuramathi (bigger, more to do, great AI package)

Reethi Beach (a good all rounder, not as good snorkelling as the others))

Angaga (smaller and quieter)

Komandoo (adults only, many repeat guests and popular)

Athuruga/Thudufushi may be over budget dependant on length of holiday but both a notch above the others.

Seaplane is 20 kg + 5 hand luggage although when it comes to it , and there are 2 of you, they in effect allow you 50 kg for the two (so not per bag - its the total). After that you have to (or may have to if its not too much over) pay something like $4 per kg i think

Hi I agree with Paul

If diving and snorkeling are important , head for the South Ari Atol if you can this will give you the opportunity to do a whale shark trip .

Meeru and Kuredu won't have good enough easy accessible snorkeling .

Kuramathi ( not SAA )

Komandoo ( not in SAA )

Good luck
