Need advice for 3 nights stay in a resort island

Hello Experts!

Need advise for first time visitors.

International flights already booked.

Will be staying on Maafushi for 4-5 days in early June, and then have a few business meetings in Male. This part is covered.

After that, I have 3 nights to spend on a resort before flying on. This, I need advise on.

We are traveling as : 2 Adults + 1 Child (4 years old)

I have tried to provide the hopefully helpful info belwo, based on reading the FAQ

-Strict non-alcohol drinkers

-Poor swimmers

-Not sure if it qualifies as "snorkelling", but want to see some fish near the beach without going to deep waters, i.e while standing or just pretending to swim / float. I think the right words would be....shallow lagoon. with patches to step on without damaging any plants / animals, with acceptable to good sea life for a first-timer.

-Non-divers (not interested in introductory diving courses either)

-Size of island. Hmm....as long as we won't get bored. I know it might sound strange, but if the island is just for enjoying the sun and lazing around, it will bore us to death as we receive more sunshine in one month than Maldives will receive in a whole year. So at least an island should have two or three sports

- A pool OR a calm shallow sea for playing in the water.

-Transfer mode - no preference, but journey should not be more than 45 minutes (regardless of whether it's seaplane or speedboat. Domestic transfer + speedboat is ok, but the speedboat should not be more than 30 minutes in that case)

- Insurance wise already very comprehensively covered so please don't take emergencies into consideration.

-Regarding night entertainment, not sure about this, so won't be an issue I guess.

-Wife a very light eater and daughter even lighter. They need death threats in order to try food they are unfamiliar with, especially Asian food. Western food is ok for them. Husband, average eater by Western standards, heavy eater by Asian standards.

Total Budget in USD (for specified board basis, accommodation and transfers)

BB : 1500

HB : 1800

FB : 2000

AI : 2300 (not very keen unless the benefits are significant even if alcohol is excluded)

Would be also nice to know what the particular resort you suggest provides for free, e.g free use of canoes, tennis courts etc

Looking forward to your expert recommendations!

Thanks for reading and thanks in advance for your reply!

Welcome to the forum XAmmuri. You have given us some great details but you are booking very last minute to stay at a resort next month. Some islands will not be available and some have a minimum stay of 5 or 6 nights. Please get with a good agent who specialises in the Maldives and ask them to find out what accommodation is actually still available to you within budget. If you bring that list back here then we can comment to help you pick the best one based on your criteria.

Thanks for your input.

I just searched on Tripadvisor and it seems plenty of resorts (not guesthouse / or Male hotels) are still available within my budget. I already factored in the taxes and there are not less than 35 resorts with availability inside my budget. Unfortunately as I am not familiar with the resorts, I am not sure if they are good.

Perhaps you can suggest regardless of worrying about availability,as you never know when a cancellation might occur and an opening can come?

Thanks

Tripadvisor is not a specialist Maldives agent. Did you factor in the transfer costs, as seaplane transfers will add on several hundred USD?

Could you post your shortlist of which ones (in budget) look most appealing to you so we ca comment in whether they meet your criteria.

Thanks, Tripadvisor is not a specialist Maldives agent of course. No one claimed that. LIke I said, I used it to check for availability. All (and not limited to ) the below are available from some sites or offline-suppliers, for my chosen dates, some with some adjustment of plus or minus 1 day. And I just stopped as I think the time could be better spent reading reviews rather than collecting all available resorts. Please do not worry about availability. It is not my enquiry :)

I did factor in the transfer costs.

Vilamendhoo would be my pick from those. It has an excellent house reef just off the beach so you could stand in the shallow lagoon (internal to the reef) and watch the sea life. It is a larger island but one end is adults only. It is a seaplane transfer of about 30 minutes.

I thought Vila had a minimum stay of 6 nights with the specialist agents.

Just checked.....even the direct hotel booking page on the Vila web site says there is a minimum stay of 6 nights.

I would get with a specialist agent - otherwise you are wasting time researching resorts which are not real options. We can suggest suitable islands to you but it all comes to nothing if they are already full at this short notice or have a minimum stay policy or have child restrictions. The longer you leave the booking, the less availability there will be and only the most expensive or more unsuitable rooms will be left.

I appreciate your efforts , but really, please do not worry about the availability / ability to book.. Check Agoda, Hotels.com...such a restriction is not applicable for Vilamendhoo bookings via them. I HAVE checked the above resorts and all are available AND BOOKABLE from one source or another. Please let's not focus on that. I am in the travel industry and I have access to systems that are for agents only. Unfortunately the systems don't come with human advise, which is what am asking for here.

I would look at kurumba. It's close to male so you can max your time, is child friendly and you should be able to see some fish in the lagoon. It's also got a very good reputation.
