GTM trip

-The boat itself wasn't fantastic, though it was built just 3 years ago. It feels a bit dated, but was still comfortable. What went really wrong was that the rooms had an intolerable smell. In certain rooms, there was very strong fuel smell, and in others, some pungent smell which we couldn't figure out. As a result, most of the nights, we spent sleeping on the deck.. And when it rains, it became a problem. To be fair, when we told the crew about it, they tried to clean the room to remove the smell but still, if we are unable to get a restful sleep, it spoils the holiday experience.

-Our itinerary: We felt a bit cheated by the whole planning and itinerary. Prior to boarding the boat, we were at Maafushi and the arrangement was to pick up 1 other person (from our group who was arriving later) from the airport, and then to Maafushi to pick us up. However, Hassan sent a Dhoni to Maafushi and we travelled 2 + hours back to Male, met up with that 1 person, wasted 2 hours on Male, and was told we can only proceed to the boat at 7pm. We later got to know that the previous group left only at about 6pm, which explains why we had to waste all those time roaming around Male. The next day, the boat set sail, and brought us to..... somewhere near Maafushi. So essentially, we wasted 4 hours travelling, to come back to the same area. And for the rest of 2 - 3 days, our boat was just around Maafushi island.

-The main purpose of the trip was to go fishing, however, we spend maximum 2 hours each day on fishing. Other times, the boat was on the move, or the captain docks the boat at 4pm at shallow waters, which wasn't good for fishing. And on the second day, the captain has to travel a couple of hours to stop at Gulhi to top up the water tank, and on our way out, because of the shallow waters, we wasted time on waiting and trying to get the boat out of the dock. Shouldn't "housekeeping" matters like this be done before picking us up?

-On one of the day, the dinghy broke down, and we were unable to leave the boat to do any fishing or snorkelling and the captain docked the boat at 4pm in lieu of an forecasted storm (which never came). And we were left with nothing to do.

Overall, we spent more time on travelling (for nothing) and also a disappointing fishing experience. I would think that GTM is a boat experienced for surfing, and wouldn't recommend it for anything else
