Help Choosing Island Please

Budget: around $6500 to $7000 for a 10 night trip (excluding flights but including transfer)

How many people the budget is for – 2 Adults on Honeymoon

Preferred board basis: All Inclusive

What time of year you intend to travel: Flying from Bangkok 06/09/2015

How long you intend to go for: 10 nights

The relative importance of the following information will help to narrow the suggestions:

Good snorkelling from the beach is very important

Type of transfer: Prefer Seaplane but not precious on this

Type of accommodation: Would love a water villa but can look at other accomodation

Pool - Important

Choice of restaurants - Very Important

Night life - Very Important

Ambience: As few children as possible?

Hi All

Now I've filled in the above I'll give the full story :)

We're going on Honeymoon 01/09/2015 and we're doing 5 nights in Bangkok and then 10 nights in the Maldives (flying from and to the UK).

We've been to Kuoni who were very helpful and have shown us Kuramathi which looks like it ticks our boxes (looks of restaurants, nightlife, snorkeling, pool). We have been quoted just over £6000 for the full trip (including flights and Bangkok) with a beach villa or £8000 for the Water Villa which really is too high for us (despite a massive want and looking at ways to afford it).

Can you recommend anything similar to Kuramathi please (biggest issue with Kuramathi is that it's Kuoni exclusive in the UK so no chance of getting a better deal elsewhere).

Thanks in advance

Rob, talk to Jai at Travellab. They are Kuoni agents in the Uk and provide Kuoni holidays but for much less. We have just been to Maafushivaru(Kuoni exclusive in uk) with them & got about £800 off the Kuoni price. 10 nights AI with water villa including flights for just over 6k so I would have thought you could get Kuramathi in budget through them.

Cheers

Thanks both

Kuramathi definitely seems exclusive (stated as such in the brochure)

Purely Maldives show as not being bookable by UK customers either

I will give travellab a call, Thaks DickieJupp

As said above, travel lab will get you a great price and kuramathi sounds an excellent choice.

Travel Designers are another kuoni agent who can sell the exact same kuoni holiday but at a discounted price. We've used them for a kuoni-exclusive island. Usually a significant saving over the price quoted by kuoni direct....

As the others said, you can book a Kuoni holiday with one of their agents. I got my Kuoni holiday £700 cheaper with Travel Lab.

Yes, I also saved £700+ off each of my last 3 Kuoni holidays in the Maldives by using Jai at TravelLab. Can't fault him or his girls.

Kuramathi is a good choice. Take into consideration that there are two tupes of AI: normal and select: select included all the restaurants and the other doesn't, so be careful that you have what you want.

Anyway Kuramathi as other big islands, like kuredu and Meeru, aren't really "exclusive", i would say they are targeted to mass Market (of course this doesn't mean the same in Maldives than anywhere else: they are really elusivo compared to other parts of the world), these island are offered by not specialist in Maldives, like Kuoni and many first timers go there and love them, as they are really a very good choice, and many people repeat and love them, but I can't say that they are exclusive as for example Park Hyatt...

You could go to Kuramathi/Vilamendhoo/Kuredu/Meeru twice for the same price as some of these 'exclusive' islands.

For that price I would expect dolphins to be giving me rides around the reef. ;-)

Yes, you can do it, each of us decide how to spend money, and I prefer to a better island and I don't go AI (no good at all for diet). And though as I said kuramathi is a very good option, I don't want the OP think it is a high-end resort (which I would call "exclusive") as I wouldn't want somebody would think bathala is the most luxurious resort in the Maldives...
