Ferry between Atolls

Anyone know if it is possible to travel by ferry between islands without going "back" to Malé? For example from Mafushi to Ari-Atoll.

Hi

Welcome to the forum :-)

You will probably have to charter a speedboat or sea plane .

If you are staying on a resort island the only method of transport off is by seaplane, speedboat or dhoni (both operated by the resort) or a combination of the 3, local ferries do not call at island resorts.

Since you mention Maafushi I take it you are looking at staying on a locally inhabited island and ferries do call at these. From Maafushi you would definitely have to come back through Male to go to South Ari atoll. There may be other islands available to you en route to South Ari and you would need to look at the ferry timetable for routes which can be found here

The provincial ferry routes will open as a pdf. Bear in mind ferries do not run on Fridays and some routes only run on certain days.
