general advice

I have never been to Sri Lanka before, so would really value some advice about the best area to go, i am travelling with a four year old and three teenagers, we want somewhere somewhere relatively lively but not overly westernised somewhere we can walk around of an evening and eat and have a beer. Any advice greatly appreciated.Jill

Hi Jill

One of the better hotels for family based holidays would be the Club Hotel Dolphin in Waikkal, this seems to get many good reviews here on Trip Advisor, so maybe take a look at those, i have put a link the review pages here for you.

This hotel is fairly close to the airport (no noise though), and ideally situated for day trips out too.

Most!! resort hotels in Sri Lanka are sadly a "little westernised" mainly due the fact that most toursits do in fact come for the west, but outside, in the towns and villages, you will find some local life too.

But.... having sad that, not that many resorts sadly where you can go for wander around in the evening times.

Be VERY careful with the sun out in Sri Lanka, especially with the younger ones, if not properly protected, you WILL burn in minutes!!, but do go and enjoy what this fab country and it's lovely people have to offer, you will not regret it.

Hi,

All the beach areas are westernized. So if you like the charm village life go to a place like habarana.
