First Visit Help!

Hey All,

We are planning a visit to Sri-lanka in December for 5 days. Confused and lost in terms of where to go. We definitely want to go to Galle but along with that want to visit some tea gardens and possibly some wildlife sanctuary (elephants). Where should we go and how should we plan this?! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank You!

Do a google search on "how to plan an itinerary for Sri Lanka". You will get a few sites that will help you to plan. Once you know approximately where to go and what to see, either you go to a tour company like Koni or Jetwing and aske them to give you a quote or search for hotels in each place and book them. Then you need to decide how to travel through the island, using public transport or using a car and a driver.

In general, a typical itinerary will start you in a hotel in Colombo area, then travel to the ancient cities in the north central province, then Kandy, Nuwara Eliya or Ella in the mountains, followed by a safari in the National Parks in the south and ending on the south west coast. This not the only way to see Sri Lanka, this is just one possibility.

Hi gummyg

Five days is little time for Sri Lanka and using public transport will take more time out for seeing and doing things. Have a look at the very many things Sri Lanka has to offer, bearing in mind that the East Coast and the Northern area are out of season as well as too far away for only five days. Then let us know what your top interests are. There are many itineraries possible for your time period. For a start Colombo is an hour or more from the airport and is a missable city unless you are looking for activities that can be done in any city anywhere [almost] you should look at going from the airport aat Katunayake which is near Negombo to your first destination. unless of course you decide on taking a train when you would need to go to Colombo.

You don't need to use a travel agent for any bookings. Once you have decided your itinerary checkout accommodations here on TA then book using one of the many platforms. I use booking.com regularly however agoda is often mentioned by others.

There are top Questions on almost every subject you need to know and this forum is fready or subsequent advice.

Regards Archi

5 days is not long and i would suggest that you should not miss the hill country. Nuwara Eliya, Ella, and Haputale are all worth visiting and you can take tours of tea factories in each of them. Do some research (and include Kandy too). Come back to Negombo for your last day as it is just 5 kms from the airport. At Negombo you can visit the fish market, churches and temples, as well as enjoying a good swim on the beach.
