Malaria Tablets in Nuwara Ilya / Kandi

Hi all,

Do you think I need Malaria Tablets if I'm staying for 2 weeks in Nuwara Ilya and the surrounding area? We are travelling in early July this year. My doctor in Australia has told me about two different tablets that are available and suggested I take both as in some areas the mosquitoes are immune. Any suggesions?

thanks so much

Hi there,

Nonsense. Eliya has a climate close to Scotland (but a much stronger sun, IF it comes) and no dangerous mozzies at all. Same for Kandy, all of Sandya's family who still live there never take malaria precautions.

The danger zones are

* Southern plains (from Yala to Udu Walawe)

* North-central plains, also known as Cultural Triangle.

So if you plan to make outings to those places, with overnight stays, you have reason to consider the tablets.

All the best,

<Erik> & [Sandya]

hi,

Yes agreed with erik's answer. Nuwara-eliya & Kandy both are not treated as malaria threatened areas.
