1. Re: transportation in Sri Lanka

The easiest and most comfortable way of transport in SL is renting a car/van with driver. Available at about LKR 60/km.

Other forms of transport could be trains and busses.

Colombo -> Sigiriya can be done by a/c bus to Dambulla and bus from there to Sigiriya

Sigiriya -> Kandy can be done by bus to Dambulla and bus from there to Kandy

Kandy -> Adam's Peak can be done by train to Hatton (quite scenic) and bus from there to Dalhousie

Adam's Peak -> Matara is a long way by public transport, cab be done by bus to Hatton, then a/c bus to Colombo and finally a/c bus or train to Matara

Matara -> Galle -> Hikkaduwa -> Colombo can be done by train or bus

Hi,

Public transport can be used for the said route but will be very tired. If you could hire a car with a driver its much convenient & you could save lots of time and be more relaxed.

It very much depends on how many days you want to hire a car/van.

Rates for cars/vans should be from LKR 5500-6000/day including 100 km and about LKR 50-60/km for extra km.

Roughly the distances you want to cover is:

Colombo -> Sigiriya = 170 km

Sigiriya -> Kandy = 90 km

Kandy -> Adam's Peak = 120 km

Adam's Peak -> Matara = 300 km

Matara -> Colombo = 160 km

If you stay in hotels/better guesthouses, they will provide quaters and meals for the driver. If not you will have to pay for room and meals.

Hi

Most suitable way to hire driver fro fixed day rate (un limited km drive).cost will be about 6500-7000 RS per day including fuel, driver’s accommodation .when you choose a driver better take service of driver who has guide license from Ceylon tourist board .

Thanks you,

Colombo-> Sigiriya-> kandy-> adm's peak -> matara

In my opinion you need minimum 5 days to do this, as I reckon you intend to climb both Sigiriya Rock and Adam's Peak.

day 1: Colombo -> Sigiriya

day 2: Climb the rock in the morning and drive to Kandy after lunch

day 3: Kandy -> Adam's Peak

day 4: Adam's Peak

day 5: Adam's Peak -> Matara

We are heading off from Negombo today Monday till Saturday. Basic route is Negombo - Sigiriya - Kandy - Newrallia (sorry about spelling) - Galle and back up the coast to Negombo. This is for 60,000 rupee per day or 300,000 rupee in total. Covers cost of driver, car, fuel for 1200km. Afte this distance we pay 25 rupee per kilometre. We cover our own costs for accommodation.

On a different tack we had a very nice smorgasboard dinner wi frinds at the the Blue Oceanic Hotel - Negombo for 11,000 rupee, great value.

Hi,

I think you have enough information of about the distance nd things.

Actually I am writing to recommoned you a very good driver. He is Nanda.He is really good driver that i can recommond. nsr.tours@gmail.com his mail address. he charges 48$- 50$ per day. Unlimited Km per day. As previous mail said accomodation and food get from the hotel you stay for the driver. So no extra burden on you. Its safe to get a driver to do your trip.

Hi Chris

"This is for 60,000 rupee per day or 300,000 rupee in total."

Did you hire the president's bulletproof limo or did you have too much arrack with your smorgasboard dinner?
