Banks for Money Changing in Colombo airport

Hi,

Can anybody let me know if there are any banks which change money inside Colombo Airport. If yes, would it be operational for all 24 hours?

Which bank provide the best rates to change the USD to LKR?

Thanks,

Yash

Hi

Yes, there are several bank counters at the airport, which you come to after collecting your baggage and just before the exit. They are operational 24 hours a day and have all offered the same rate as eachother each time I've been there. You'll find the rates as good as any that you will be offered whilst in the country.

Keep your receipt to enable you to convert any unused LKR back to your usual currency on departure.

All the best and Happy Christmas

Hi,

I think Sue is already sampling the Christmas spirit or she would have remembered to advise you to ask the banks official for lots of small denomination notes.

10,s... 20,s... 50,s ... and 100 notes.. No one ever has enough change or balance as it's called in Sri Lanka and the banks usually offer you the cash in 2000 or 1000 rupee notes.

Thanks Rod.

Will surely keep in mind to take notes in small denominations.

Hi,

No need to change your SGD to USD. Banks at the airport and elsewhere in Sri Lanka will be happy to change your SGD to LKR.

Bombay, New Zealand?? I thought Bombay (Mumbai) was in India.

Yes, you will encounter problems changing INR in Sri Lanka. Banks will not change INR, but some money changers will.

Hi Hans

Bombay is in India but TA does not recognize Indian Bombay. I dont want to call my city as Mumbai because it has linguistic/political overtones.

I am a citizen of Bombay.

Thanks a ton to all Sri Lankan DE's on this forum as you guys are really making life much easier for the first time visitors (and also repeat visitors). Appreciate all your goodwork!!....May your tribe increase

Just 1 more question....

Do banks in airport operate even on bank holidays? As most probably there is a muslim holiday the day we fly back. Would the exchange of LKR back to USD happen on that day or should I go to the money changers?
