airport currency?

what currency do you use when in the departure lounge?

Having read that card cloning is bad here, I do not want to use cards, and you have to exchange rupees before leaving, so what currency are things priced up in? Say we wanted a snack, drink or buy some duty free?

Dollars mainly. A few shops also accept rupees, mainly for smaller expenses. Probably can also use sterling, euro etc. but the change will be given in USD.

All the best,

My wife has bought various gifts in O'Dells air side in Colombo and they've accepted well in excess of the stipulated amount. Same thing in a couple of the smaller shops but anything to do with duty free or the restaurant they take pouns, dollars or euros, etc. Not rupees.

As Erik has said, they'll give change in dollars so best to pay as near as possible the exact amount.
