Hotel close to Columbo Train Station

So many questions.........We are heading in to Columbo Airport off a flight at about 3:35pm and wanted to see if someone could confirm a decent hotel close to the Fort train station so that we don't have too early a start for a 9am train to Kandy?

One extra thing, how much would we expect to pay to get to this part of town and how long it would normally take off the flight?

Any recomendations greatly appreciated

Colombo City Hotel (directrooms.com/sri-lanka/hotels/colombo-cit…) is a budget hotel fairly close to Fort Railway Station.

At rush hour, Airport to Fort would be at least 90 mins. Price around Rs 2,500.

All the best,

If you are arriving at 3.35pm I assume you want a hotel for one night only. In fact all the big hotels are quite close to the Fort Railway Station - 10 to 15 minutes by taxi - so it is really a matter of choosing a price bracket. Hans' suggestion is a good budget hotel, which would be fine if you just want somewhere to sleep for the night.

Puzzled by your 9am train to Kandy because there isn't one at 9, as far as I know. There is the Intercity Express at 7am which takes two and a half hours and then a train at 10.35 which takes three and a half.

Here is the link to the Sri Lankan rail website. Look at the Colombo - Badulla line:
