Tour & beach stay

Hi again,

we will be taking the usual inland tour for a few days starting from Colombo (Pinnawela, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Sigiriya, Dambulla) but are still undecided on a beach resort at the end of the tour.

We are looking at Negombo, Bentota, Wadduwa and Beruwela. Negombo is very handy for the airport and we like the look of some of the hotels, however we are now tempted by Bentota! We do like nice beaches but we don't like swimming in the sea so that is not important.

We are also wondering if it is possible to add Sinharaja or Polonnaruwa to the above itinerary somehow. Would that work? We don't have a set number of days for either the tour or beach, whatever fits best.

Any suggestions much appreciated!

Hi there,

On the tour: your first list would have as optimal sequence Sigiriya, Dambulla, Kandy-with-sidetrip-Pinawela, Eliya. P'ruwa is close to Sigiriya and Sinharaja would be an add-on between Eliya and the coast, with at least one overnight nearby.

Bentota has the best beach of the three places that you mentioned, indeed.

All the best,

Hi,

If you decide to stay at Bentota, you can do Sinharaja as a day trip from there. It's about 2-2.5 hours drive each way.

But one with a VERY early rise, Sinharaja wildlife (small in scale) is at its best until 9-10 AM so you'd have to leave Bentota maybe 6 AM. Better to do it on the tour and stay overnight nearby, though there's not that much in terms of acco with value-for-money near the park; Ratnapura (1-1.5 hour from entrance) has a cheaper star-class hotel.

All the best,

Getting up early does not seem to bother visitors to Bentota. Tours often start around 4.30-5 am.
