Nuwara Eliya Tea Country or Kitulgala Rafting?

Since we have limited time in Sri Lanka in September, we need to decide whether to spend 2 nights in Tea Country or 1 night and then 1 day rafting in Kitulgala. We have rafted some major rivers around the world (Zambezi, South America, etc). What is your thoughts on the Kitulgala rafting experience? Also, still trying to find good accomodations in Nuwaray Eliya for stay -- any input would be appreciated. Most of the reviews imply that any property that is not "top dollar" are dated or worn....hoping to find that hidden gem.

The rapids at Kitulgala are from Grade 2 to 4. The 7 km down the river takes about 1.5 hours. Maybe September is not the best month as August and September are usually pretty dry months, so the water level in the river could be lower than normal.

I have stayed many times in Nuwara Eliya, but never found the hidden gem.
