Trip Report - 9 Days

Hi !

Thank you to all who helped in making our trip an enjoyable one.

Day 1. We arrived and were met by our smiling driver at the Airport. Made our way to Anuradhapura, going through the coastal road via Puttlam. After checking in to hotel we visited Isuruminiya Temple and the Ran Masu Uyana gardens and saw the Chakra (cannot fathom the meaning of it). Night in the Diamond White House.

Day 2. Managed to see Sri Maha Bodi, Ruvanweli Seya, Twin Ponds, one of the museums (we bought our entrance tickets there) and Samadhi statue and a few more places.

Check out from Guest House which was quite clean, and continued to Mihintale. Saw a little bit there and went on to Uppuveli, where we stopped for the night.

Day 3. On the beach in Uppuveli. Afternoon went to visit Nilaveli and Pigeon Island. Back to Uppuveli for the night. Again a clean guest house !

Day 4. Started a bit late and went straight to Habarana for a meal. Afternoon safari in Minneriya. One of the highlights of our tour ! Even in India we cannot see so many wild Elephants in one place ! Night in Sigiriya, Kassapa Lions Rock. Nice place !

Day 5. Early to Sigiriya. Amazing place. The landscaping, Frescoes....... cannot describe ! Must visit place for all visitors. Then to Dambulla Caves, again different, but very nice. I liked all the artwork on the cave roofs, and the statue of a King ! Drove on to Kandy. Night in Serene Garden hotel. Small but clean and friendly service too.

Day 6. Kandy, visited a lot of places, top marks for Tooth Temple and the Botanic Gardens. The dance program was very nice with all the different costumes and the drumming too. Again in Kandy.

Day 7. A drive into the curvy roads and to Ramboda. Spent a long time at the foot of the waterfall. Very nice experience. Visited a Tea Factory, bought some CEYLON TEA ! continued to Nuwara Eliya. Barely managed to catch the train to Ella (I wanted to stay by the waterfall !) somehow we got to Ella. Beautiful scenery along the way. Driver picked us up at the station. Night spent in Mountain Heavens.

Day 8. Small Adams Peak was a nice trail. Then off to Kitulgala. Saw a couple more waterfalls. Relaxed in the evening, by the riverside. Night in Plantation Hotel.

Day 9. Morning splash ! White water rafting on the Kelani River ! Great feeling ! Made our way back to the Airport.

Comment;

We got most of the ideas of places to visit on TA.

Once we had the general Idea, we selected a driver from the many recommended.

We selected for knowledge, courtesy, punctuality, price, good car

Then we discussed about accommodation and after we agreed, driver booked all accommodations (we paid through him), and at some places got nice discounts.

Drivers driving was safe and he was a good person with his knowledge and friendly personality.

Price/Rate was a teeny bit less than that given on TA

Impressions;

Sri Lankan people smile ! They are friendly and love Hindi Films !

They Love cricket (me too ) !

Sri Lanka is in the parts we saw, CLEAN ! Congratulations Sri Lanka !

All the places we visited were kept quite clean, and to us that is impressive.

Thank You All !

We will try to come back !

Great that you posted a JBR as not only provides feedback to all those who may have helped you directly or indirectly but also creates ideas for those just thinking about where they might go and what they might do. Thank you.

You managed to see and do a lot and had a great time. Seeing a herd of elephants in their natural environment is simply awesome - beats zoos and such places easily. I was hoping to see some elephants and wildlife in India myself early next year so hope that there are at least some around Kerala!

Regards

Archi

3 of us are planning a 10 day trip next year and were wondering what the cost was for a car and driver per day that you had.
