Sri Lanka

We are thinking of heading to Sri Lanka end of October/November 10 days with 2 kids (8&9). We are an American family living in India. We like family activities and beach time. We are not into the bar scene any more. We like to split between luxury & casual facilities so our budget can fluctuate from high-end to low-end. If you have any words of wisdom please share. Thank you in advance for your input.

Hi there,

Not a good season for beach time, see

tripadvisor.com/Travel-g293961-c176578/Sri-L…

for the overview. Can have lucky sunny days but also bad days, though hardly ever at Indian monsoon level. Inland tends to be better weather.

So you could consider, if you don't want to replan to a better-beachtime-season, to focus on inland. Hills (Ella-Haputale are nice), Kandy and Triangle (e.g. Sigiriya-Habarana-Dambulla) could be the three bases to split your time over.

All the best,

Agreed. Not the best time for beach.

With regard to activities you could consider-

Touring the cultural triangle.

Botanical gardens, temple and Elephant orphanage in Kandy.

Ella rock and Little Adams peak in Ella.

Horton plains national park/Worlds End in Ohiya.

Lipton Seat in Haputale.

Rafting in Kitulgala.

A half day at Yala or Udawalawe national park.
