Travel from west to east coast independently

We are thinking of one week in Kalutara 13.01.14 then two/three weeks wandering about, we fancy the east coast predominantly and like independent travel.

Are links good from kalutara, rail and bus. We understand that you can also get internal flights.

Hi there,

East coast in January? HUGE risk for flooding and very rough sea.

See top question on Public Transport for suggestions, it's all possible but either very slow or very expensive.

All the best,

As mentioned not the best season to travel to east coast. You may be better off travelling to Cultural Triangle, Kandy,Hill country and few wild life parks instead.

Thanks to both of you, think we will cross Sri Lanka off our list for now and return southern India.
