Sri Lanka with mobility issues...advice??

Hi we have had a planned trip to Sri Lanka and unexpectedly have sustained a foot injury that currently limits my mobility. While I can walk with a help of a boot, can you advise how the infrastructure is like?

Thanks!!!

Hi Panama

Bad news about your injury!

Where have you planned to go and what transport do you intend to use?

Hi there,

In Colombo sidewalks are generally okay, with some potholes. Outside town however it detoriates quickly and also often walks include some climbs or descends, so you might be restricted a bit. However sometimes tuktuks can bring you where cars can't.

All the best,

I recently travelled with three older people with knee problems. Footpaths were ok for them. There are tuk tuks everywhere so if it gets too much you can just get in one. We did have a car so didn't have to walk long distances. When we were walking there were plenty of places we found to rest e.g. there always seemed to be a chair in shops, there were eating places to sit.

Generally LKR 50 for 1st km, and LKR 35 for following km.

These days many of the tuk tuks are metered so you don't have to negotiate the price if you don't like bargaining :-) If it's not metered you you set the price before you get in - I mean a price for the whole trip.
