surfing east coast

Heading to Sri Lanka next July. Looking at places to stay with surf in east coast that are less crowded than arugam, that have a good vibe and cruisey place to lob.

You can only surf at Arugam Bay.

Yes too bad. Find a more remote area of Abay if you find the main beach too busy ;-)

All the best,

I was in Arugam less than a month ago on a solo moto ride. I checked some of the breaks south of Arugam and north of Potuvil and they looked promising with the right wind and swell direction. I noticed that only the keen surfers get up early and head out of town in a tuk tuk to get the best waves and conditions so early morning and late arvo sessions should be quite uncrowded.

Some of the most promising breaks on the south coast were Mirissa, Wellegama and Unawatuna (as well as every track in between) It was onshore and the swell running about 8 foot but I would love to see the result of an off shore at these places.

Good luck,
