What injections have YOU had for Sri Lanka?

Going to doctors soon for Sri Lanka jabs, do I really need Japanese-encephalitis or rabies?

nhs.uk/Conditions/…Vaccination.aspx

Thought if we had a survey it would help me decide the risk better.

Which ones did you have before you went?

you will need to get;

1- POLIO (polio/tetanus/diphtheria)

2- HEP A ( 1st jab is free) booster only needed after 6-12 months

Your GP. may give you a Hep A/B combination

3- TYPHIOD

These are give on the NHS free of charge

Rabies only needed if you are working with animals

Malaria is not a problem in Sri Lanka if only on holiday

I don't add anything to the usual mix we have at home and I don't take malarials either. I do avoid physical contact with monkeys, cats and dogs etc as I have seen the effect of rabies in SL .

I spent 20 days in Sri lanka last month, had no injections and am still alive. I put that down to Lion Beer (in medicinal proportions) and a good mozzie net of an evening. I also survived 18 days solo on a moto around SL but that may just have been good luck.

Don't get sick trying to stay healthy :-) IMO.

PS. I am not a doctor, this is just my humble opinion :-)

You don't need any injection to travel in sri lanka. It is a clean country .

Hi there...

ALWAYS best to check with your local GP/Nurse, and NOT someone that comes on here and says "You don't need any injection to travel in sri lanka. It is a clean country"

You DO need some protection, but only your GP/Nurse can be precise..

yeah I know to follow my GP's advice, but the last 2 comments have been useful to add a sense of what risks joe blogs would take.

I think rabies is mentioned for Turkey and we have been 4 times and never knew!!

I'm leaning towards not doing rabies or Japanese encephalitis, these 2 would cost me loads as well ;O))
