Dambulla or Sigiriya??

Hi,

Looking to spend 4 nights in Dambulla or Sigiriya in August as a base to discover the Cultural Triangle. I've found well-rated/priced guest houses in both towns but can't decide which one to take. The place in Dambulla is right near the golden temple and in Sigiriya 10 min walk to the rock. Are there any defining factors (walks, restaurants etc.) why we should stay in one place over the other or would it be best just to go for the better value guesthouse?

Cheers,

Jim

There are few restaurants near Sigiriya, but hardly any in Dambulla.

We've just come from there a few days ago. We stayed in Dambulla right near the golden temple and found it really simple to get from there to Sigariya by local bus - about 30/40mins and 34 rupees:)

Dambulla was more of a town whereas Sigariya seemed much more quiet and totally geared towards tourists only. So if you wanted to eat at some "local" places (Cheaper and more authentic) you would be better off in Dambulla. Still, Sigariya was more pretty so would be better for relaxing.

Enjoy!

Will you have a driver, or are you using buses?

For buses, stay in Dambulla. More buses available. Sigiriya is off on a side road.

With a driver, I would probably choose Sigiriya, as it is quieter.
