First timers - advice appreciated!

Me and my husband are staying in Waikkal,

Negombo for a fortnight mid September.

Have never been this part of the world before so would love some recommendations as to things not to miss.

We definitely would love to do a safari but have no idea where to start looking. Can you do day ones or would you have to stay overnight?

We are ok with hiring a car to get anywhere.

Mostly love wild animals and dolphins, scenery, would love to see the culture and history of the island as well.

We are looking for a nice relaxing time as well so don't want to pack too much in but really don't want to miss the must sees!

Thanks for all advice!

Hi there,

See

tripadvisor.com/Travel-g293961-c122197/Sri-L…

for possible day trips. A safari is too far for that as closest one (Wilpattu) is 4 hours and they are 6-9 AM and 3-6 PM. You could also combine the overnight safari visit with Anuradhapura sacred city (in case of Wilpattu park) or Sigiriya rock and Dambulla temple (in case of a Habarana park, which is 5 hours away).

All the best,

<Erik> & [Sandya]
