Bank Account For Tourist

Hello Guys;

Any idea about opening a regular bank account + ATM debit card for a traveler holding a tourist visa?

Thank You

Not possible. You need to have a permanent residence visa.

I have found this:

-------------------------------------

Permission to foreigners on tour or business in Sri Lanka to open accounts in foreign currency

The Tourism sector is expected to expand significantly with the increase in tourist arrivals. It is also proposed to further facilitate business activities of non-resident non-nationals who are on business visits to Sri Lanka.

These foreign currency accounts would facilitate the aforesaid category of non-residents to execute their transactions smoothly and safely during their stay in Sri Lanka and help contribute to expand tourism and businesses activities in the country.

---------------------------------------------------------------

and this one:

---------------------------------------------------------------

1. Non-Resident Rupee Accounts (NRRA)

Non residents rupee accounts may be opened for foreign nationals resident outside Sri Lanka, companies and firms registered outside Sri Lanka, Sri Lankan nationals resident outside Sri Lanka (other than emigrants), foreign banks, which do not carry on banking activities in Sri Lanka.

Permitted credits and debits to Non Resident Rupee Accounts (NRRA) held by foreign nationals resident outside Sri Lanka and companies and firms registered outside Sri Lanka are the following.

Credits: Proceeds of inward remittances received in favour of the account holder and permitted local credits other than funds derived from capital transactions

Debits: Outward remittances in respect of current account transactions and local disbursements

Permitted credits and debits to NRRA held by Sri Lankan nationals resident outside Sri Lanka are the following.

Credits: Proceeds of inward remittances in favour of the account holder and local credits

Debits: Outward remittances in respect of current account transactions

NRRAs in respect of foreign banks may be operated without any restrictions

Well as I read it meant for people on BUSINESS visits. Which, very likely, would require a business visa not a tourist visa. Sorry...

Tnx,

How long are you hoping to stay in SL for ?

This might take more than 1 visit to the bank, and there will be a waiting time for approvals, transfers and for the ATM card itself
