Snorkelling

OH is keen to go to Srilanka for our next break but what he wants to do most is snorkel.

We've been twice to the Maldives and the Red Sea and I feel that Srilanka cannot compare. He also prefers to snorkel from the beach if possible.

Has anyone experience of snorkeling at these destinations?

Many Thanks for any contributions.

Hi there,

No personal experience, but lots of enthousiastic reports from friends. Yes it's not upto Maldives standards but no the price level for budget accomodation is also 20-30% of the Maldives while even for high end Lanka scores clearly cheaper.

December-April/May: good sites are Mirissa, Unuwatuna, Hikkaduwa and growing-star Kalpitiya

May-October: Passikudah and Trincomalee beaches (including Pigeon Island).

All the best,
