Northern Sri Lanka help

Hi all,

I am going to Sri Lanka is a few weeks, I'm flying into Colombo, then having 3 nights in Kandy but after that I want to go further north.

So if I want to visit places like Adams Peak, Yalla National Park or places like that, is it possible to stay in one central location / hotel and go and see them, or should I pick hotels near to teh sights?

I'm thinking of a week in the Hill Country,

Thanks in advance,

Dave

Adams Peak is off season until full moon in December.

Yala National Park is closed all of September.

How far north do you intend to travel ?

It's possible to do day trips to the cultural triangle from Kandy. Vise Versa

But usually it's a better idea to base yourself closer to locations like Yala, Adams Peak, Horton Plains.

Well the plan was two bases, Kandy for a little while and then a base to stay at further north.

All the places you have mentioned are south of Kandy.

If you visit kandy you can see Dalada maligawa (holiest buddhist site in SL), and check Peradeniya gardens. There are good boutique hotels in Kandy, you can have some relaxing time.

If you enjoy seeing ancient temples you can check out Ambakke, Degal doruwa, lankathilaka, and Gadaladeniya all in kandy.

Visit Dambulla, close to kandy and would take half a day.

You can go and see Sigiriya (day trip).

You can visit Udawala (elephant orphanage). many tourists visit this place.

You can go to Nuwara Eliya, Ella, go on a hike in World's end and Hanthana.

These are places you can see making Kandy a base...

If you like national parks, go to see Minneriya/ Girithale as i guess it is the season (please check)

You can go further north like Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and even jaffna...

If you can go to beaches in east like Pasikudah and trinco...

Good list of places.

Ella is too far for a day trip from Kandy. You have to be based there to do anything useful.

Udawalave is also too far away. But you can visit Pinnawela.

Lot of things to do, but it all depends on your interests and priorities

Well yes I like temples and that sort of thing, the elephant sanctuary sounds good - anything that is beautiful and impressive, things which you really should see.
