distances between major sightseeing points

Our travel agency, Red Dot, is telling us that the car travel up to100kms/day is free and over 100kms is charged at some set rate. We are doing the Classic Culture sightseeing tours - around Sigiriya, Kandy, Eliya back to Colombo. My question is how to figure out if we are within 100kms or over from leg to leg. Red Dot has quoted us a price but we are wondering if the KM limitation will take us over our budget. Pls help.

Thanks.

Hi there,

Simply use calculators like

srilankatourism.org.uk/lang/en/traveller/dis…

You might need a Lanka map (links to it on TA) to find the nearest town that is in the distance finder and make a guesstimate of the extra km's for that, but generally these sites help a lot.

I think what Red Dot will do is calculate the total distance travelled and then see if you are over the limit. So on some days you may do less than 100 Km and can use the extra for days when you do a bit more. In any case the additional rate per Km is not that high.

normally they don'tlook al km per day but for the whole trip. So it depends how long you will be travelling. For thye tour you do, you need at least about 6 days. It depends on whether you are also visiting Polonnartuwa to travel under 600 km or not.

To give an idea about normal rates for carhire with driver and insurance:

07 Days with a limit of 1000 kilometer USD 350

08 Days with a limit of 1100 kilometer USD 380

10 Days with a limit of 1200 kilometer USD 415

12 Days with a limit of 1300 kilometer USD 450

13 Days with a limit of 1400 kilometers USD 480

14 Days with a limit of 1500 kilometers USD 515

Have a good trip!
